  1. Difference between Traditional Media and Social Media

    First of all, what is a media? It is the way of communicating to people. It is a tool for delivering and giving information. Let’s define now traditional media.

    Using of television, radio telecommunication, newspaper, magazines, books, printed photos, tapes are traditional media. These are the fragile types of media.  It is the old form of communicating with people. In the early years, traditional media influences everything. Even one of your family members or friends have been influenced what he or she saw and hear from this kind of media. What is the advantage of the old media?

    ▪ Easy to Remember

    What do we mean by easy to remember? People’s minds remember something easily if they see or hear what is on the news in their everyday lives.

    ▪ Tangible

    This is something social media can’t beat. Old media uses hard materials to work such as television, radio and papers. Usually, this kind of media is everywhere so it is very easy to remember just like we tackled from the first advantage.

    ▪ More viewers

    The more viewers you have, the more customers/client you get. This is one of the most advantages of old media. Even though it’s old, it is the most effective form of advertising.

    ▪ Sense of being old

    Why? Most people in the world would still prefer traditional media. People prefer a media that can be easily seen in things around in their houses.

    ▪ Quality

    The quality is controlled before broadcasting or published. The quality is much better than social media.

    What are now the disadvantages?

    ▪ Expensive

    Advertising in traditional media is very costly. It also takes time and large amount of money to make an advertisement. Televisions (LCD T.V) are very costly that an average family can’t provide.

    ▪ One way communication

    You can’t give an opinion to what you’ve seen or heard in television or radio. You, being a viewer just accept what you see. You can’t post what your thoughts are.

    ▪ Effectiveness of trends

    The effectiveness of trends of traditional media is very low. According to surveys, more people who exhibits their talents in social media such as Youtube or Facebook tends to be more famous than people who exhibits in talent shows.

     

    If traditional media is something you can touch like t.vs and radios, social media is a software media. The examples are social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram, blogs, internet forums.

    Advantages:

    ▪ Reasonable

    Advertising and promoting business in social media is free of charge unlike in old media. It is also very cheap if it you want some advance promotion.

    ▪ Two-way communication

    Unlike in traditional media, social media lets its viewer to give opinion, suggestions to what social media gave. For example, celebrities can now communicate with their fans easily.

    ▪ Large Library

    Everything you need to know is on the internet. It’s like a huge library that you can easily browse and search easily.

    Disadvantages:

    ▪ Non reliable

    Always remember not all things you see in the social media are true. Examples are fake accounts in all social networking sites. And also not all information given on the net was true.

    ▪ Protection

    If you are a writer and you want to publish your work in the net, your work is vulnerable to plagiarism. Social media can also harm or damage the reputation you’ve made.

    ▪ Consumes large amount of time

    Staying on the internet is time consuming than traditional media. You don’t realize while you enjoy staying on the internet, the time flies by.
